Tarnava Mare River is located in the heart of Transylvania, at the center of the Carpathian Mountains. This river is one of the most famous fly-fishing locations in Romania and is home to many wild Brown Trout and Grayling. This section of the river is owned by AVPS Tarnava Mare, the local fishing and hunting association. The fly-fishing part of the river is approximately 10 km long and anglers are allowed to catch and release only. Graylings are between 25-30cm in length, but some 40cm and larger have been caught. The fishing season starts in April 1st and closes in December 31st. The best time to fly fish is from July 15 to October 30th.
